I thought it would be appropriate to dedicate my first wine related blog to a wine I have really come to love over the past few years. The Rafanelli family has consistently produced luscious wines and their 2012 Zinfandel does not disappoint. Too often, wine collectors turn their nose at zinfandel — favoring the more classic Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir varietals. However, Rafanelli’s winemaker, Rashell Rafanelli-Fehlman, has really brought us some of the best that a Zinfanel has to offer. The 2012 is beautifully balanced and full of fruit without being overly jammy. I love this wine because it drinks as well alone as it does with food. I never hesitate to offer this wine to a fellow wine lover. It consistently has become that “rare find” that you are so happy to introduce to someone. I am forever grateful to San Diego’s Barrel Room (Twitter @theBarrelRoomSD, and www.tbrsd.com) for introducing me to this wine!
