My friend Curtis introduced me to a great wine shop/bar in San Marcos, CA yesterday evening. The North County Wine Company (www.northcountywinecompany.com) offers an impressive variety of wines at all price points. This shop is owned and operated by Jim and Bill Tobin and they provide a warm and welcome atmosphere, an incredible depth of wine knowledge, and a great selection of wines to taste by the glass. We tried a set of 10 blind tastes (5 white and 5 red) which are offered at $2.00 a taste. The highlight of the night was a bottle of 2012 Tenute Sette Ponti Oreno Toscana. This Tuscany IGT wine is comprised of 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot. It is beautifully balanced, with firm tannins and spicy fruit. 18 months on new French oak adds some spice to the blackberry and violet aromas.
